Bitkom expressly welcomes the discussions on reforming data protection supervision and advocates an integrated supervisory structure that combines central coordination with regional expertise. A key element is a mechanism allowing the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI) to be involved where there are conflicting decisions or interpretative questions among the state supervisory authorities. This would enable cases of particular significance to be centrally coordinated and decided swiftly in the future, without losing the established relationships and expertise of the state authorities.
