BITKOM is one of the few national ICT organizations with a seat and a voice on the Executive Board of EICTA, the central association for ICT and consumer electronics in Europe. Here, BITKOM represents the interests of its members in four main topics: digital economy policy, environmental policy, technical and regulatory policy and trade policy.
History
EICTA was founded in 1999 as the European Information and Communications Technology Industries Association through the merger of two previous organizations. 2001 saw the merger with EACEM, the European Association for Consumer Electronics. The newly formed organization changed its name to the European Information, Communications and Consumer Electronics Technology Industry Association. EICTA unites 32 national ICT organizations from 24 countries and has more than 50 companies as full members. Altogether, EICTA represents 10,000 companies in Europe with more than two million employees and yearly revenues of more than one trillion Euros.
Mission
As the voice of the European ICT/CE industries on the European level:
- EICTA is an instrument for the representation of sectoral interests.
- EICTA is the platform for the placement and implementation of EU-policies and serves as a intermediary between politics, administration and business.
- EICTA furthers the long-term business success of its members.
